Veggie Soup

OK, the title is a little miss leading. I really don’t have a topic for this post but there is a theme. The title was an inspiration from my son who has joined me to bring our house to a truly divided house. He started a vegetarian diet about a month and a half ago. Thus the count is now two against two. I no longer stand alone.

Just a quick disclaimer here: I started writing this post December 1st, the day after my last post. So it may sound a little mixed up but bear with me. At least I am posting something and it even has some relevance to what has been going on the last two weeks. If you read between the lines you will see why it has taken two weeks to complete this post. I guess I’d better start on the next one tomorrow so you will have something to read in the next two weeks (hopefully sooner).

The two biggest days in the history of my blog were both after several weeks with no posts. There was one day that 23 people looked at my post. I may have to take a few more hiatuses and my readership may be high enough to actually sell advertisements on here. I won’t do that. This was simply a project not a business venture. I get a kick out of this blog. I can pretty much say what is on my mind and my wife doesn’t fuss about it. She does, however, tell me how stupid I can be. I love that about her. She can tell me what she thinks and I just can’t get mad about it. Mainly because I know she is right most of the time.

OK just a quick update on some things that were regular mentions at one time. The band, we have been working together the last several months. We are getting a focus and have set some goals to work toward. We have two dates scheduled for 2010 right now. That is two more than we had scheduled in December of 2008. It is exciting to hear how we are starting to sound with the new line of personnel we have. At this time I am not playing Bass guitar. I am splitting duty between acoustic guitar and keys. That is a true challenge since I haven’t spent any amount of time on the keys in many years. So I am working really hard at this. As a group we have developed a good sound and only time will tell if everyone likes the sound as much as we do.

I’ll have more soon.

Welcome Back

Hello my one trooper. I know at least one person has been checking on a regular basis to see if I have changed something. Thank you very much. My hopes are that it is more than one person and I haven’t lost all readership.

Thing have been rather crazy around my house. But it is time to bring things back to normal. I plan to start posting on a regular basis (like you haven’t heard that one before). There have been several events that have broken routine but it is time to take back things as I know them. Bear with me and I will have some regularly planned things mixed with sheer thoughts from a mad man.

I’ll post some things as catch up and maybe a treat in honor of the Christmas Season. Check back soon.

Wow!!!

I can’t believe it has been so long. So many things have happened since my last post. I’ll not try to catch you up on it all. But to get things started I will share a neat video with you and leave you with one thought about it.

Watch the Video and let me know what you thing about it.

We (everyone) should take a lesson from these two and look beyond our differences and love each other no matter our differences. “If they can do it, what’s our excuse” Steve Hartman hut the nail on the head.

Thanks Henry for letting me see this video.

Job is a Real Man

If you have read the previous post, you know I lost my sister last week. A loss like this is physically taxing on each family member. After a long draining week, we started back with our normal routine Monday. Well, as normal as possible as this is the first week back to school for the children. We have two going two different directions. Monday evening around 8:15 while mowing our lawn, I saw my wife on the porch motioning for me to come to the house. As I got to her, she informed me that her mother had just called and told her that her 46-year-old brother had passed away. Therefore, we began the all too familiar process of packing to be away for several days. It was hard enough for my wife last week in dealing with the loss of my sister. I cannot begin to imagine what she is experiencing this week having no time to recover from last week and being right back in the middle of a loss of a sibling. At this point, the week has to end and we are back home and trying to get back in a normal routine again.

The loss of these two special people in out lives came just 8 hours short of one full week apart. This is what I have taken away from this past weeks events: Funerals are viewed as a sad time; this is not how they should be. We should be celebrating the life our loved ones spent here with us. They have moved on to eternity and if they accepted Christ as their Savior are spending time with God.

We are here on this earth for a time. That time is too short to worry about the little stuff. More important than that is to know where you are going after your life on earth has ended. If you happen to have any questions please ask.

Side Note: Due to many circumstances beyond our control, the band has postponed our date at Heritage Baptist Church this Sunday. I will update you with the new date when I know it.

Informational Update

Hello everyone, I have a post that I started a couple of weeks ago. I just never finished and posted it.

This past week my life was changed drastically. My older sister lost a short battle with Pneumonia. She was Handicapped and her physical conditions just didn’t give her much of a chance to fight against it. She was such a breath of fresh air to everyone that came into contact with her. It is quite hard to sort out the feelings of her passing. She was physically a 47 year old lady with the demeanor of a 1 year old child. After everything settled down I have spoken with several people that knew her very well and others that didn’t know her at all and one resounding comment I heard was after viewing the memorial video they all commented about the fact that she always had a smile on her face. I spent some alone time thinking about her from my very first memories of her to the latest memories and as best I can remember I could count the number of times she didn’t have a smile on her face on one hand. She was the best and no one can argue that. I WILL miss her but rest assured I will be my best to make sure she is never forgotten by anyone. I love you Karen.

A side note or two about the band, we are working on a name. It is amazing that five people can come up with so many possibilities. I’ll let you know as soon as we have settled the issue. We will be back at Heritage Baptist this Sunday, August 23 at 10:30 am. If you have nowhere else to be, come on and celebrate God’s Freedom and Love with us.

I’ll get back on a regular schedule very soon. I promise.

Monday was Monday

The title has nothing to do with the post. I have two things for you today. First is an introduction to a wonderful program. This past Saturday I saw my daughter and twenty-five others from out church leave for “World Changers”. It is a wonderful program, which allows youth the chance to build their character while helping others in need. Yesterday (Monday) 350 youth and adult chaperones embarked on projects around Chattanooga, TN such as re-roofing, painting and even construction projects like building handicap ramps and small to medium repair projects. To learn more about what is happening at World Changers in Chattanooga, TN go to http://blogs.world-changers.net/chattanooga-tn-july-25-august-1/

Not to take away from World Changers because it is more important than this I wanted to share this with you as well. I posted what I thought was one hilarious video this past Friday. I caught a glimpse of the processional to this wedding as I was leaving for work I think Thursday. I was going to post something specific and got side tracked. That is nothing new especially when I hit YouTube. Anyway, Saturday morning while catching all the news, I saw a clip of this dancing celebration and they made a statement that the wedding party would be performing the very dance live on the morning news. So, without further delay enjoy edition two live on the Saturday Today Show.

It’s Friday – a day for fun

Ok, this really isn’t an update. I just realized it has been a little over two weeks since I posted anything. I don’t have a formal topic to post about today but I have one awesome video for you. It is five minutes but well worth the fun packed in.

I got married in a traditional ceramony to my wife of almost 17 years. I think this couple has nailed the way a wedding should be. It should be a celebration of the beggining of a life long adventure together. Enjoy and I will post something with substance later on.

Various thoughts from the mind of a mad man.

Hey people, I am sorry I have left you hanging so long. I spent a wonderful relaxing week with my family at the beach. I did get back over a week ago. The week back was usual. I played catch up last week.

The media has had plenty to cover the last two weeks. Several famous people dying, politicians making poor choices and a serial killer all made the national headlines. Well, where are we now? The dead have been buried, the politicians have been overshadowed by Michael Jackson’s memorial service and the serial killer met the fate he probably expected. Where are we, back to square one? The media had to start looking for news again. Unbelievably they should not have to look very hard. The economy has not change in the last two weeks and people are still loosing their jobs.

I guess this post did not really have a point when I started and it really does not have one now. Therefore, to spare you from more back handed ranting I will close and tell you there are posts coming that have points and some may even be entertaining. You may have to have my sense of humor to enjoy them but at least I will. See you soon.

Vacation!?!?!?!

Hello everyone. I was on vacation with my family this past week. Sorry for the huge delay between posts. I had planned to give you a day-by-day rundown of the trip but I was on vacation and, well, you know things don’t always go according to plan. We had a wonderful time. We were at the beach. I must be getting older. We stayed in Murrell’s Inlet and I loved it. The crowds are much smaller and I honestly liked not having people stacked on top of each other when we were on the beach. We had enough space each day to spread out and toss our beach junk all over the place.

Since I didn’t do it last week here is a rundown of what we did, got up Saturday and collected two additional children and headed in the direction of the SC coast. The rest is in order of the schedule we kept beginning Sunday: Breakfast, beach, pool, dinner in, and good chill time. Breakfast, Beach, lunch, pool, dinner in. Breakfast, beach, lunch on beach, dinner-in, hit the beach shops. Breakfast, beach, shower, out to dinner, Garden City (pier, shopping and game room). Breakfast, beach, lunch on beach, shower, Dixie Stampede, heard that Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett both died. Breakfast, learned that Ed McMahan also died, lunch @ Prossor’s, beach, shower, pizza for dinner, packed everything. Loaded the van, loaded the kids, pointed the van toward the upstate and mashed the gas, one traffic jam, lunch, several 5 mph check ups on the interstate and five hours later we ended out week long journey at home with life long memories and a full mailbox.

The week with the wife, our children and two additional family members was great. I wished it could have lasted at least another week and even longer. The real lesson learned came with in the hour of arriving home, “Life goes on”. It seems life picked up right where it was when we got in the car last Saturday and left town. Ryan, Taylor, Alex, Lindsey and Melissa, thanks for a great week. I look forward to the next week long vacation about a year from now. So I guess tomorrow it’s back to work and shortly the planning will start for the next family vacation.
